Here is a list of drinks you should think twice about before having.
Energy Drinks
We get it, it’s two in the afternoon, you have a project to complete before the deadline and you can barely keep your eyes open. What you need is a pick-me-up in the form of an energy drink. And don’t for a moment think that because many energy drinks are fortified with B vitamins that they are good for you.
An eight-ounce energy drink can deliver 130 calories and 31 grams of sugar, which will do your waist no good, to be sure. What is even more concerning is what is printed on the ingredient label. Many energy drinks contain stimulants that could be harmful. Best if you skip these altogether.
Sports Drinks
We’ll just put this right out there upfront: There is nothing you do sitting at your desk that would require replacing lost electrolytes.
If you are lifting weights, hitting the treadmill hard or sweating to the oldies, you might make the argument that you need a sports drink. But typing emails and discussing your weekend adventures with Bob in accounting isn’t going to leave you drained of precious electrolytes and in desperate need of hydration.
Downing a sports drink at the office will leave you with added calories that you really don’t need.
Fancy Coffee Drinks
It’s one thing to enjoy a cup or two of Joe while at the office, it’s the go-to beverage when we need a pick-me-up, but fancy coffee drinks are just too much.
Take a look at the sheer number of calories in a latte or Frappuccino, you will be blown away. A Frappuccino packs 61 grams of sugar, which equals 236 calories. Add in whipped cream and you will be downing a beverage with 420 calories. No thanks.
Sweetened Non-Dairy Milks
If you are with the times, you probably skip out on cow’s milk and opt for almond milk, soy milk, cashew milk or whatever the latest craze might be. If you are drinking unsweetened non-dairy milk, that is a good choice. However, if you are drinking flavored non-dairy milk, you could be sucking down a sugar bomb.
A glass of chocolate plant-based milk could have the same amount of sugar as a Hershey’s chocolate bar. Make sure you read through the ingredients before buying plant-based milk.
Flavored Coconut Water
Coconut water it at its peak of popularity, part of the reason is that it is packed with electrolytes. Sipping on coconut water is fine, as long as you aren’t drinking mango or pineapple-flavored coconut water. Again, these types of drinks are filled with sugar and calories you really don’t want or need. Stick to plain coconut water.
Sweetened Iced Tea
Tea is always a good choice when it comes to beverages as it is full of disease-busting antioxidants. But the sweetened teas come with a ton of sugar that basically cancels out any health benefits. Your best choice is plain, unsweetened tea.
Fruit Juice
You would think that fruit juice is a healthy choice as it is, after all, made from fruit. While fruit is full of fiber, fruit juice is not. And even if you get 100 percent fruit juice with no added sugar, it is still high in the sweet stuff.
